Philosophy

  • The more discipline you have in any aspect of life, the more freedom you will have in the future.

  • Develop an internal locus of control. (Take responsibility for your life)

  • Develop a low time preference. (Focus on actions that will have benefits in the future)

  • Prioritize learning, action, and achievement over self-indulgence.

  • Make choices that align with your true desires and values. Act on them.

  • Find satisfaction in the process.

  • Get out of your comfort zone. Grow every day by challenging yourself and failing.

  • Write it down. Block off time. Take action and do something with what you learn.

  • If you are comfortable you are going nowhere.

  • 10% of life happens to you. 90% of life is what you do about it.

  • Time is the most valuable commodity you have. Attention is second. Don't waste your time or attention.

  • Don't compare yourself to peers in terms of normal activities.

  • Every morning write down something you want 20x and see what happens.

  • Why just settle for a dream job? Never settle. The goal is freedom.

  • A few meaningful and significant accomplishments are better than a long list of accomplishments.

  • Don't wait for the storm to be over. Grind in the rain.

  • Everyone else is scared to fail. Don't be. Failing is how you get better. Being uncomfortable is how you get better.

  • Other than death, all failure is psychological. (Jocko)

  • If you can say the word "good", that means you are still breathing. That you've got some fight left in you.

  • Live each day like it's your last day on earth. Take time to watch the sunset and hug your loved ones. The importance of everything else will fade in comparison.

  • Motivation is temporary. Discipline is permanent.

  • Every second you are either gaining ground or losing ground.

 Notes

  • Specific knowledge is found by pursuing your innate talents, genuine curiosity, and passion.

  • Escape competition through authenticity. Be unique.

  • The best jobs are neither decreed nor degreed. They are creative expressions of continuous learners in free markets.

  • Intentions don't matter, actions do.

  • Embrace accountability and take business risks under your own name.

  • Follow your intellectual curiosity more than what is hot right now.

  • Use leverage. Coding, writing books, recording podcasts, tweeting, YouTubing.

  • You will never get rich renting out your time.

  • Wealth creation is a positive sum game.

  • Strive to solve problems rather than make money.

  • The only way to truly learn something is by doing it. Listen to guidance but don't wait.

  • The more you know the less you diversify.

  • If you have two choices, take the path more painful and difficult in the short term.

  • Most gains in life come from suffering in the short term to get paid in the long term.

  • The means of learning are now abundant. The decision to learn is scarce.

  • Read what you love until you love to read.

  • Explain what you learned to someone else. Teaching forces learning.

  • A calm mind, a fit body, and a house full of love cannot be bought. They must be earned.

  • Happiness is the state where nothing is missing.

  • Happiness is about the absence of desire, especially for external things.

  • We think of the world as malleable and we are largely fixed. It is the opposite.

  • Our lives are the blink of a firefly in the night.

  • A rational person can find peace by cultivating indifference to things outside their control.

  • Happiness, love, and passion aren't things you find, they are choices you make.

  • You can slowly, steadily, and methodically improve your happiness just like your fitness.

  • We crave experiences that will make us be present but the cravings themselves take us from the present moment.

  • A happy person isn't someone happy all the time, it is someone who effortlessly interprets events in such a way that they don't lose their inner peace.

  • Happiness is being satisfied with what you have.

  • You are a combination of your habits and the people you spend the most time with.

  • Develop relationships with people you admire and respect, but don't envy them.
